flower & garden shop

in february 2010, pot & box moved into our new digs at 220 felch street, just off main street, here in ann arbor, michigan. nestled in an old factory that previously housed the ann arbor art center annex, we like to think we're continuing the tradition of making and creating in our unique little space. in the spring & summer, the studio is open thursdays & fridays from 11am-6pm for drop-in shopping.

we're also more than happy to meet you most any other day if you let us know when you'd like to come by. with a quick phone call or email, we'll take your special order and will deliver every day of the week. oh, and during holidays, you'll find a selection of our fresh flowers, flowering plants, and other horticultural lovelies at everyday wines in ann arbor's kerrytown market & shops, as well as at bureau of urban living in detroit.

in the flower shop, fresh flowers headline the show. when the seasons permit, we harvest from the pot & box cutting garden or purchase from the ann arbor farmers' market, in chillier times, we thoughtfully order from nearby flower markets. we've found that when flowers are grown in socially-responsible and eco-friendly conditions, they are beautiful, last longer, smell better, and are comparable in price.

the challenge of sourcing cut flowers from sustainable & ethical growers is availability, but to our advantage, as demand grows so does supply. we continually seek new like-minded suppliers near ann arbor, or in other states & countries if we can't find them close to home. in addition to purchasing flowers and floral products produced with environmental conditions, consumer health, and farm workers in mind, pot & box carefully watches its own generated waste. all of the cardboard, paper, plastic, and glass we can't reuse is recycled, and all our floral clippings are composted. we even encourage our clients to bring back their spent flowers and plants if they don't have the means to compost them.

other than beautiful fresh flowers, you'll find all kinds of cool stuff in the shop. to accompany your fresh stems, we offer a delightful selection of modern and eclectic vases, as well as some traditional favorites. we also like to stock a nice collection of indoor plants--funky tropicals, delicate ferns, stunning orchids, as well as our ultra-popular terrariums and airariums. we feature ceramic vases and pots, porcelain flowers, letterpress cards, botanically-themed pillows, and other seasonal items from local artists, many of which live and work within a few blocks of our shop!

of course, it wouldn't be pot & box without our namesakes, so we carry a wide selection of containers that you probably won't find anywhere else in town. and when we decide what pots and boxes to carry, we go for recycled materials, local producers, and aesthetically fabulous! of course, we also love to repurpose, so you'll also find some reused items from nearby antique and resale shops perfect for planting in.

seasonally, our shop expands outside to include plants and flowers perfect for you to plant in your own containers and gardens. we pride ourselves on choosing super cool stuff--stunning colors and stunning variegation, jumbo-sized and wee varieties are a few choice phrases you might hear from us. of course, if you don't see it, we would be happy to try to help you track it down and get it growing!
